Where Are You Birding This Last Weekend of November 2009?
Time to talk turkey. The fourth Thursday of November is when we in the United States observe Thanksgiving. However, anybody can take a moment today to consider the veritable cornucopia of blessings we enjoy in this day and age. For example, I’m thankful to be able to share the photos that follow, but let’s first talk about you: What will you be doing this weekend and will you be watching birds? Desmond came into this world early this morning, at 6:18 AM to be exact, after 13 hours of labor.  He tipped the scales at an imposing 8 pounds, 7 ounces, and is a full 21 inches in length.  Both Daisy and Desi are happy and healthy and we anticipate them coming home on Friday morning.
Interview: Tim Cleeves on the Slender-billed Curlew
As we discussed in yesterday’s post (The Search for the Slender-billed Curlew) the Slender-billed Curlew Numenuis tenuirostris is one of 192 bird species designated as Critically Endangered - meaning that it is considered to be facing an extremely high risk of extinction in the wild. Few breeding areas have ever been located, but the species was once found in large staging and wintering flocks across much of eastern Europe and in wetlan
