Language: English
Topics: parenting, family, children
Description: I started A Mama’s Blog in January of 2007. I started the blog because I wanted a way I could preserve the daily happenings with my boys. Over the course of a year, I realized that I also wanted my boys to know who I am/was, besides just their mother, during this time in their lives while they are young. I started writing other topics on A Mama’s Blog, that interest me, and that I am passionate about, mainly information on C-sections, VBAC (vaginal birth after cesarean) births, breastfeeding, and pregnancy and birth issues. I am currently undergoing thyroid cancer treatment and that has become a sujbect I have and am writing about. I hope some of what I write on these subjects help others, in their search for information. By not only writing about my boys but also writing about subjects that are important to me (at least important enough at the time I wrote it), I am also preserving some of myself. I hope one day Ryan and Cole will want to read what I have written not only about their lives during this period of their lives, but also about my life. I hope this will assist them if they ever want to know more about me-their mother.

Wanted for Christmas: “I Don’t Want Anything But My Sider (sister) Needs a Coat”
Last year my sister, Mara, who is a second grade teacher at a very impoverished school outside of Denver, had her students write a letter to Santa Claus.  She had never done this before, and was expecting typical requests from eight and nine year-olds.  The letters were anything but typical- they were heartbreaking.  She sent an e-mail to her family and friends with some of the requests, asking if there was any way we could help out these kids. The letter that touched me the most last year was from a little boy who asked Santa for “socks with no holes in them.”  I posted her letter in a blog post, and asked my readers if they could help.  The response was
American Cancer Society Blogger Advisory Council
I am excited to announce that the American Cancer Society formed a new blogger advisory council in September.  Their purpose from the press release:  The Council members will work with the Society to determine how best to use social media to galvanize the movement for more birthdays in the virtual world by encouraging women to take an active role in fighting cancer. The Society’s movement for more birthdays seeks to save lives from cancer by helping people stay well, helping people get
The Second Race
Last week, on Monday, I blogged that I was ready to run, and I was going to push myself in my second 5K race on Saturday to see what I could accomplish.  On Tuesday when I started to run, felt the start of shin splints in both my shins.  The pain wasn’t bad, but it was there.  I kept running and after the first mile or so, the pain went a way.  Later, I read up on the causes of shin splints, and I believe I was developing them because I had added several sprints after my normal runs to increase my speed.  The week before most of the path  I ran on was covered
Earth Mama Angel Baby Giveaway- C-Mama Healing Salve (Scar Healing)
I promised a few months ago, I would share the amazing scar reducing-healing product that was sent to me complimentary from Earth Mama Angel Baby, after my thyroid cancer, and neck dissection surgery.  I have mentioned in a few previous blog posts that I could not believe how wonderful this salve works, and I promised to write a blog post about it.  Since then, I have received a nu
Ready to Run!
Last month I ran in my first ever running race, The Denver Koman Race for the Cure, supporting breast cancer.  At the end of that post, I mentioned my running journey was going to be continued.   On Saturday, I will run in my second race.  It is the Denver’s Veteran’s 5K race, before the Veteran’s Day Parade in downtown Denver.   One big difference in this race from the Race for the Cure, is this race will be timed.  I will have an official finishing time and ranking at the end of the race.  I’m curious to see
