Sustainable Power Research and Development at Alameda Point
We’ve been talking for some time now about how adaptive reuse of the buildings at Alameda Point for sustainable energy research would be better for Alameda than building 5,000 homes a la SunCal’s Alameda Point Revitalization Initiative. We’ve mentioned Makani Power, currently at Alameda Point in a former aircraft hanger several times. Today, the San Francisco Chronicle published a story that covers Makani Power and the high-altitude wind power generators they research and produce.

Alameda Point Development Initiative – Public Benefits Could Cost $375 Million, SunCal Only Commit
On October 30th supplement to the City of Alameda Election Report on SunCal’s Alameda Point Initiative indicates that the promised public benefits could cost from $300 million to $375 million. SunCal committed only to $200 million for the same public benefits. The supplemental update reads “Based upon the general descriptions contained within the ballot initiative for regional sports complex; parks and open space; improvements to seaplane lagoon frontage; Bay Trail extension; on-site and off-site traffic and transit improvements; ferry terminal and transit hub; fire station improvemetns; and, branch library, staff conservatively estimate

Alameda Point Revitalization Initiative Election Date Set for February 2, 2010
At last night’s Alameda City Council meeting, Council voted 3-1-1 to place SunCal’s Alameda Point Revitalization Initiative on the ballot for February 2, 2010. According to the City staff report, the initiative will be referred to on the ballot as “MEASURE: Alameda Point Development Initiative” Councilmember Frank Matarrese moved to set the ballot date for February 2, 2010, and Vice-Mayor Doug deHaan seconded the motion. Mayor Beverly Johnson, deHaan and Matarrese voted in favor, Councilmember Lena Tam opposed and Councilmember Marie Gilmore abstain
