NEW JERSEY GOVERNORS RACE
At one time, believe it or not, the State of New Jersey, was a Republican State. Today, the state is dominated by Democrats. In New Jersey, the last time a Republican won a statewide election was in 1997. That was when Christine Todd Whitman won her re-election bid as Governor. Since 1997, 49 other states have elected Republicans to state wide office. In regards to the Democrats in New Jersey. They have not re-elected a Democratic Governor in 32 years. The last Democrat Governor to be elected to a second term was Brendan Byrne in 1977.Once again history may repeat itself and New Jersey may go 33 years without re-electing its democratic governor.
