Information

Blog Name: Catalonia blog
Url: http://www.cataloniablog.com/
Language: English
Topics: Catalonia, current affairs, politics
Description: This site is intended to be an open window to current affairs in Catalonia, specially those related to its daily politics, economy and culture. At the same time, this is intended to be a small and modest step to help internationalise the Catalan reality, which is something we have -so far- almost forgotten. As former Catalan president Jordi Pujol says, if a country is to be known and is to function as a part of this world then international projection is needed. But this blog is not exclusively about Catalonia. Together with Catalan-related posts the visitor will also find information about others stateless nations, with which Catalonia might share common goals, threats, challenges and opportunities. I believe this will help to understand other realities and share ideas between communities which despite the physical distance might have many things in common.

There are grounds to be suspicious of the behavior of many politicians but that is completely unfair for the vast [...]

Not so many years ago, many –and this includes myself- thought that joining the European Union would be the key to get past the [...]
Ingenuity in international politics strategy
Historically, Catalans have been very sensitive to other stateless nations,  minor regions oppressed by powerful states and any other group of people with political, social or cultural problems. Thus, we have found ourselves joining campaigns in favor of minority languages, dismembered nations at the verge of being assimilated by the dominant nation in their state, or [...]
About the corruption scandals in Catalonia
Catalan politics, which had historically been known as an “oasis” has become been seriously turmoiled by a series of important corruption scandals. First it was the Millet case , with millions of public money ending up in the pockets of the administrator of the Palau de la Música, one of the most popular and respected institutions [...]
Laporta’s final season in charge
As Joan Laporta’s term at the presidency of FC Barcelona reaches its end and his political profile gains more and more momentum the media campaign against him has also increased its intensity.  The virulence with which many radio and TV programs treat Joan Laporta is notorious but it’s understandable: the fact that it has been an [...]
