Description: I am a part-time culinary student who has a full-time passion for food - and if that food is dessert or bread all the better. I have lots of things to say about food and baking and am happy to share the recipes I try. In fact, I like to share because I want everyone to be able to try the things I talk about. I prefer my baked goods to be from scratch and made with fresh ingredients, but that does not exclude recipes that may contain (gasp!) a cake mix or other convenience food. My number one rule is that it taste good and be honest. If it is cake mix I will tell you, and I shall not be ashamed! (Well, not much anyway) In a former life I sang opera. I bellydance for fun. If I could live in any other place, I would live in Ireland. I love reading and writing, but have more talent with the former than the latter. I may be obsessed with Nigella Lawson. One day I shall open my own bakery and you will all be invited! I am happily married, have three dogs, I love hockey, I am a proud Texan, and I have perpetually messy house.

Christmas Cookie Round-Up!!
I’m in a turkey related coma at present, but rather than leave you empty handed I am posting some of my favorite cookie recipes that are perfect for the holidays.  In the weeks to come there will be loads of cookies, cakes, breads, candy, and savoury dishes, but these recipes will get you started! I’ll be back on Monday and we will attack the Holidays head on!
Butter Croissants
Ready for something a tad more advanced?  It takes time to make, but it is SO worth it. I fell in love with croissant making a few semesters ago in my Laminated Dough class.  Bread making is among my favorite things to do in the kitchen, but making laminated doughs (doughs with butter sandwiched between the layers) tops that.  It takes time to make laminated dough and the process has taught me a lot about being pat
Tex-Mex Macaroni and Cheese
Make no mistake, I adore macaroni and cheese. I have posted a recipe here before and it is sublime. It is one of my favorite things to eat, and I love to tinker with my original recipe and see what new variations I can come up with.   This new recipe combines macaroni and cheese with anoth
Chocolate Chip Pecan Pie
Growing up we would go to Houston for Thanksgiving and spend it with my mom’s family. We would always have Thanksgiving dinner at my Aunt Ruby’s house, because she had the largest dining room, and the food was always spectacular. Of course, as a child all I was only interested in stuffing, rolls, macaroni and cheese, and pie. Yes, I have always been a carb addict!
Slow-Cooker Braised Short Ribs with Honey Garlic Glaze
Braising is one of my favorite ways to prepare tough cuts of meat. This slow method of cooking breaks down the connective tissues and fat making otherwise tough cuts of meat tender, juicy, and very flavorful.  I almost feel bad for people who have no idea how wonderful cheap cuts can be.  Of the cheap cuts short ribs have quickly become my favorite.   They have so much beef fl
