Description: A blog that follows the news and works of young furniture designer Jason Phillips. “There are a lot of great new designers out there – what makes me different?” Growing up in the family business – surrounded by design and by designers, has given me a frame of reference that my peers don’t necessarily share. I know where this industry has been, which gives me a unique perspective on where it’s going. Like many designers today, I think on the computer. It’s an essential part of my process. But while some designers never get further than sending a jpg to an anonymous factory far away, I work directly with artisans in small workshops to hand-fabricate my designs. From concept to creation, I work by combining modern design and traditional skills. It’s good to be Green. Green design is one of the most important movements of our time. For me, and for The Phillips Collection, it’s a philosophy not a marketing term. Under my leadership, we were founding members of the Sustainable Furniture Council. We are and will continue to be a driving force in “eco-chic” – combining style, sensibility and principles and making them accessible to our customers. Finally, my design sensibility is unique – a synthesis of experience, training and talent.
