medellin
this post features cuisines from 3 different countries. colombia (obv), mexico and lebanon. this is because we’re in medellin and it’s well fancy (and not really my cup of tea if i’m honest)
day one – lunch at a big fancy supermarket – the name of which escapes me
i REALLY enjoyed this salad. it was from one of those salad bars you get down sainos or tescos – you got to pick 3 bits of protein (i went for ham and 2 lots of chicken), 4 bits of fancy extras (avacado, he
cartagena
have i mentioned how much i like arepas con queso? well i do. i frickin LOVE them. they’re similar in taste to cheesy smash (my fave comfort food) squashed into a pattie and grilled over an open flame. MEGANOM!! an interesting point of note is that arepas in restaurants generally taste like shit – bone dry, tough, no cheese – if it aint from a street vendor i aint interested!
the above is one of many we ate whilst in cartagena. i figured you didnt need pictures of all of them…
day one – dinner at ‘pizza & pasta’
la cuidad perdida (the lost city)
our friends woody and laura visited south america last year and one of the things they both raved about was ‘la cuidad perdida‘ – the lost city trek. jim and i had been looking forward to it for nearly a year and finally the hour was upon us!!
the trek involves 3 days hiking through the jungle to the lost city, one night at the city (or two if you so wish) and then two days hiking back.
jim and i decided to do the trek with ‘magic tours’ and BOY did we luck out! not only were jesus (’hey-soos̵
taganga & national park tayrona
i can’t really remember exactly what days each meal was on so I think i’m just going to stick them up here according to location rather than day. best to do this moving forwards too so i don’t confuse myself (easily done)
anyway – here’s a selection of the food i’ve eaten whilst staying in taganga:
’shrimp ceviche’ at our hostel on the first night. i thought ce
days twenty, twenty one and twenty two…
nice assortment of snacks for the 6 hour bus journey from bogota to san gil – plantain chips, arepa (stodgy corn pancake thing) and a bag of mixed salty snacks which included a poor copy of the well loved bacon frazzle. oh and a beer, natch.
day twenty – dinner at el mana, san gil, colombia
