November 27, 1960 Gordie Howe reached 1,000 points.  Better known as “Mr. Hockey,” Gordie Howe made his professional debut with the Detroit Red Wings in 1946 at the age of eighteen. In 1997, Howe played in his final professional hockey game. His one-game contract with the Detroit Vipers meant that Howe’s professional career spanned six decades. November 26, 1883 Sojourner Truth died in Battle Creek.  Preacher, abolitionist, and women’s rights advocate, Sojourner Truth moved to Battle Creek after the Civil War. Born a slave in New York in the late 1790s, Truth became an outspoken orator who captivated audiences. Her funeral was described as the largest Battle Creek had ever witnessed. November 25, 1863 The Battle of Chattanooga was fought in Tennessee. In the third day of this decisive three-day battle, Union troops broke the Confederate lines and sent the Rebel army fleeing. The battle culminated in one of the war’s most famous assaults as Yankee soldiers stormed enemy positions on Missionary Ridge. One of the first blue-clad units to reach the summit was the Eleventh Michigan Infantry. The Eleventh lost its commander, Major Benjamin C. Bennett of Burr Oak, who was killed in the attack. November 24, 1971 Henry Ford II announced plans for a $340 million center to be built in downtown Detroit. The plan was for a consortium of 50 companies to build the Renaissance Center. At the time of its completion, the central 73-story hotel was the tallest in the United States. It has 1,300 rooms. More than 20 years after the complex opened, General Motors bought the Renaissance Center for $75 million.
