| Description: |
I am a mom, wife, daughter, and friend, and last but not least, an entrepreneur. I never considered myself an entrepreneur; it’s just in my blood and has been handed down from the past couple generations. My first business was a lemonade stand. Who was to know that this roadside stand was the harbinger of things to come?
Through high school and college, I continued to start other small businesses, then continued as an “intra-preneur” in the New York City rat race two weeks after graduating from college.
With a decade of business experience under my belt including sales, marketing, and consulting, I decided I was ready to go out on my own with the founding of Zoe Foods, a natural foods manufacturer. At its height, the company’s granolas were ranked in the top ten and the company was named as one of Fast Company’s Fast 50 for Innovation.
Mompreneur Musings & The Quest For Balance talks about the challenges I faced while running Zoe Foods for 10 years, and my current search for a new career that will also allow me the time to focus on being a mom of two little girls, a wife, a friend, and a daughter. I am trying to create more balance in my life, knowing now that balance among career, family, and self occurs over one’s lifetime rather than in each day. Please join me on my journey and share your own experiences.
Keep dreaming, keep believing, keep achieving.

The New Guidelines for Mammograms
Are the new guidelines for Mammograms more about saving money or saving lives? I cannot apply cost-benefit analysis to saving lives, particularly when it comes to preventive medicine. For what it’s worth, here’s my mom’s take on it. She’s not a doctor, she’s a retired attorney, she is smart, and she does her homework. To the women I love: You probabl
Bribing Your Children
I admit, I have done it and will do it again. I hope that bribing my kids will not create some life long psychological problem just to make my life a little easier in the moment. Sometimes I worry about that, but most of the time I would just like a little cooperation. My girls are almost seven, and five and a half years old. They understand everything we say
The Back Up Wife
Last week I learned that all of the girls in first grade at my children’s school wanted to marry Steven. Why Steven, I’m not really sure. Of course he is a cute little kid, happens to be the tallest in the class with a nice smile and floppy brown hair. But I don’t think the first grade girls really care about any of that. This obsession with Steven has continued over the summer from Kindergar
Thinking and Working Through Life Transitions
I’m in one right now and I haven’t mentioned a word about it other than to announce that the company I started, built, and ran for 10 years is now closed. My original goal in starting Zoe Foods was to make a difference in people’s lives by producing natural foods that not only taste great, but are also good for you. Given the thousands of emails Zoe Foods r
What Do My 2 Girls, 14 Guinea Fowl and 90-Pound Dog Have In Common?
NO ONE LISTENS TO ME!!! Okay, so it’s been one of those days. Our au pair was sick, I’m still recovering from earlier in the week, and I ask my girls to do something such as homework, help get the guinea fowl into the coop, take a bath, come down for dinner… What do I get? A blank stare if I’m lucky. Pure defiance if I’m not.I picked my yo
