The snow has returned, billowing in the mists. Soon, there are drifts six, seven feet high.
Mark hasn’t seen the snow in a year. He remembers his arrival, lost in the mists and the cold. He’d lost Judy, and he’d found that asshole David. Now he had Debbie, and a kingdom.
Still, he wonders.

The king’s jaguars prowl the lighthouse, and the land. His soldiers are loyal to him.
He rules with his queen at his side. She still wears the tiara. The king has taken her child, a son, as his heir.
There is a feast, the body of an aurochs roasted over an open fire. The sailors are reveling. It is a good day.
Still, King Mark broods. David and Judy have been absent for a year. He imagines them plotting against him. He did not quite believe the pilot’s stories about the moon, until Bob clambered into his airplane and flew away. He feels he should be happy – he has a land to rule, a beautiful wife, and a baby boy. But it feels empty.
