TONIGHT! Joel Plaskett at The Roundy & The Wailers at Cork Opera House
Last night, we were thrilled to see FRED at Cork Opera House. I was thoroughly impressed with the lighting and sound there, but the nice treat was that there were TWO supporting bands performing before FRED took the stage. First to entertain us was Halifax Nova Scotia’s Joel Plaskett then Ireland’s own Delorentos. I was secretly happy that the entire night was over before midnight so I could save my energy for The Wailer’s gig tonight. Yes, a busy weekend!
So, the tough choice for Leesiders tonight is The Wailers or Joel Plaskett. Neither show is sold out. Here’s the scoop:
The Cork Opera House hosts The Wailers for their 30th anniversary tour, starting at 8:00 p.m. Tickets are st
Opera House Gigs That Rock
Cork City is home to many lovely cosmopolitan attractions, but if you’re not into that sort of thing it may not be your cup of tea. Well, this weekend there are two cups of tea that I can’t imagine not being thrilled about! Tonight, FRED (local band made good) performs at the Cork Opera House. Tomorrow, The Wailers (yes, as in Bob Marley and…) are on stage there. I am tickled to be able to be able to see these bands perform live, but am downright shocked that tickets are still available!
River Island is Moving Upstream
Patrick's Street's River Island shop will close its doors to customers and take a break to pack for their move. On Tuesday, 1 December the shop will reopen at its new home, 12 Opera Lane.
Opera Lane Welcomes Compu b
The queue started accumulating on the doorstep of Opera Lane’s Compu b store an hour before the grand opening and by 11:00 a.m. people lined up beyond Gap to get a first glimpse into the Apple-focused retailer. Needless to say, I snapped a few pics. Opening day specials include 11% discounts and goody bags with tee-shirts and a Crumpler keychain. Much to my surprise (nearly shock), the owner (?) was on-hand at the door greeting and shaking the hand of EVERY SINGLE SHOPPER entering the new store...

Cork City Hall Craft & Design Fair
This weekend is the annual City Hall Craft & Design Fair this weekend. Over 80 exhibitors with thoughtfully designed pottery, sparkling jewelry, exquisite artwork, hand-crafted toys, gourmet food and drink products, and much more grace the interior of the hall. There is even a small meal selection (including vegetarian, celiac-friendly organic soup) for reasonable prices in the main hall on-stage. Admission is €7 per person.
Though tempted by any beautiful items, there were a few stalls that became fast favorites: Belinda Northcote, Gwen Bainbridge, Alphabet Jigsaws, Wood’n, Indigo Craft, Taste of the Caribbean, Pas De Probleme, and Hot Irish Coffee & Mulled Wine.
