Seabourn Odyssey Epiblogue
Is there anything more dreaded than knowing it is the final day of a cruise? I suppose that is true of any vacation isn’t it? I can assure you than nobody onboard Seabourn Odyssey wants this one to end.[end] However, the end of one cruise can be looked upon as the beginning of the next cruise, right? As my final blog entry for this trip, I thought it would be appropriate to recap a few of our impressions of this new ship over the past 9 days. Of course, we will be preparing and posting a complete, in-depth article for CruiseReport.com in the coming days. At some point in the past, Seabourn decided to go in a new direction and the Odyssey-class vessel is the
Captains And Their Toys
Being the Master of a cruise ship is no easy task. The job requires long hours, lots of training and experience and the willingness to be far from home and loved ones for months at a time.[end] And, it absolutely requires a love of the sea. Captain Mark Dexter certainly has all of the qualifications, and the obvious love for ocean travel. However, my keen senses uncovered another of Captain Dexter's interests. He has a curious fascination with gadgets. We first met Captain Dexter while we were having lunch by the pool. My Harley-Davidson t-shirt caught Captain Dexter's attention as he walked by and it launched a 10-minute discussion of his love for his Harley and motorcycling
Innovation and Attention To Detail
Today we decided to turn our attention to the innovations that have been designed into this new ship. And, there are quite a few. My first stop today, and the most obvious to every guest immediately, is Seabourn Square.[end] This area occupies the entire aft section of Deck 7 and is a comfortable meeting spot that integrates an Internet Cafe with a Coffee Bar (which features fresh pastries, desserts and ice cream). The Coffee Bar also offers other "bar" items from 8:00 am to 10:00 pm. Without question, the Barrista on duty here deli
Is this a Ship, a Yacht, or What?
Pick up a brochure from any cruise line and they will tell you about their amazing ships, great food, comfortable staterooms, eye-popping entertainment, etc., etc., and so on and so on. But, quite frankly, many of them simply fail to deliver on the promises in the literature.[end] If every cruise line produced exactly what their customers expected every time, I suppose there would be no need for cruise journalists. So, is Seabourn trying to put us out of a job? It is sure beginning to look that way. After having spent nearly a full week aboard this new vessel it is becoming very apparent that Seabourn does delivers on its promises. Ma
Dinner with the Captain
Being invited to dine with the Captain is always an honor on any cruise. It is a rare treat, and even though we have been privileged to dine with a few Captains and several officers over the years, it is always a special event. Every cruise line has its own secret method of choosing who gets invited to dine with the Captain[end], and I have never quite figured out the criteria. I just always assumed it was Rickee's good looks that got us the invitation and they felt like they had to include me. Perhaps it was our brief discussion the other day about our mutual passion for riding motorcycles? Who knows. All I know is that when I returned from The Observation Lounge (Ten Forward) this morning
