Description: I am a humor columnist and NYC transplant, entrenched in the South Florida suburbs and up to my ears in motherhood, marriage, lattes, and "Mommy Juice." The Day My Son’s Ladybug Ran Away
-Dealing with a lost pet can be extremely daunting… even if it’s a ladybug. I can still hear the faint murmurs of my son Jake’s 40-minute meltdown when his pet ladybug, “Lady,” flew away. We kidnapped this 4 year old (or 4 day old bug – whatever the spot things mean), at the top of Mount Aspen. Jake loved her, cared for her, nurtured her, taught her to ride a bike, and started a 529 plan in her name. About a quarter of the way down the moun
New at iVillage -”Astro Boy” I Think they Went Too Far!
Okay, I will admit, I am the first one to be sucked in by cool CG animation and a star-studded cast. Astro Boy definitely fit that bill, so I took my 5- and 7-year-olds to see it on opening day. Maybe I give stars too much credit, assuming they can decipher between a well-written kids’ flick and something that may send inquisitive youngsters to therapy. Here are some creative ideas to find time for your artistic side.
The Bratz Movies are Making my Daughter act like a Brat and Dress Like She’s Going Clubbing
Here’s my 5-year-old daughter (into her fake bedazzled cell phone): “OMG!!! Hello Chloe, like, you are totally not going to be popular unless you come to my party. “ I’m sorry, what? At 4 or 5, I think I had just made the big girl move from Sesame Street to The Electric Company. While I was imitating Letter Man by leaping a capital “T” in a single bound my daughter’s doling out ultimatums, calling people “Sweetie” or “Hon,” and talking in acronyms. Sound mature? Well, you should see her attire: MORE Please CHIM
Me Time Challenge: I Don’t Have Time to Workout!
There used to be a time before kids and before my 30’s when I ate chicken wings, nachos and burgers freely. Now I can trace the outline of a single Cheeto in my belly. Even worse, my thighs seem to be having a love affair with one another, which makes walking in corduroys a very noisy endeavor. If you want the bod you had pre-babies, you have to work at it. So, I will help you find ways to work working out back into your schedule. How to find time to work out: MORE
