Preparing an LD student for College
Preparing a student for college can be challenging, particularly if that student has learning differences. They have to be academically prepared, yes, but they also need to be prepared for independence. Lack of the ability to cope and to be independent is the most frequent reason for an LD student to return home from college, in my experience.
Two homes, one heart.
Don't get me wrong, being home for Thanksgiving is fantastic. But my heart is so confused! Its such an odd feeling, I'm not even sure if I can describe it. When I came home on Tuesday, I immediately realized how weird it felt! I feel as though I'm living two different lives. I've got all of my old friends from high school that are here for me when I come home, but I've also got all of my friends at Baylor. Being home really throws me off.
Thanksgiving thoughts from Tam
My son is on a plane as I write, heading home for Thanksgiving. He is a freshman at the University of Redlands, and he is loving every moment of it. Sadly, my daughter won't be home this year, she is in Maine with family, and we will miss her. She is doing a postgrad program in photography at BU. I will also see many of my "other children", friends of my children and students both past and present. I am looking forward to seeing them all, but I am also reflecting on Tracy Fisher, my student and blogger who passed away so suddenly just a month ago.
