A poetic virtual immersion in the “Great War”
Back in the Jurassic period of my college days, I took a modern British poetry class, as part of my English major. In addition to getting well-acquainted with W.B. Yeats (which influenced my last name selection when I registered for Second Life), we spent several weeks with Up the Line to Death: The War Poets 1914-18 – an excellent anthology of the British war poets. It was an eye-opener for me, since my knowledge of that war was mostly non-existant – a combination of short shrift in high school history class, no relatives who served, and the limited impact it had on the U.S. compared with World War II.
