I'm Thankful For...
My God.My Faith.My Wife, Dominique.My Family.My Friends.The gift of life and the ability to share it with my brother.The students that continue to write me, asking for advice.I am thankful for you. The reader. While these last six months have been a journey for me, your emails, prayers, and support has gone a long way in keeping me on the path. It means more than you know or will ever realize.

Thanksgiving Prep
So yesterday I threw myself into cleaning the house and de-cluttering since we are hosting Thanksgiving this year.That made me wonder, as a reader put it, do we do the same with our souls? How do we know what we are thankful for unless we clean up our lives and start to de-clutter our minds?I don't know about you, but I'm going to take an opportunity to look back on the last year and de-clutter and clean. Why Does it Seem So Hard?
We go through life and it seems like it takes all of our effort just to "survive." We get home and there are meals to fix, bills to pay, and work to do at home or things to do because we have over committed. Grocery shopping, family commitments, hanging out with friends... it just seems to take over our lives.We don't want to fall away from God, but it just seems to happen because we become so obsessed with what is going on in front of our faces. Unless we make the concrete choice to pursue that relationship with God, before we know it, we are in a place where the relationship has weakened. It would be the same as a marriage that gradually fades into the background as a couple s

It's Not Illegal
There are millions of excuses for why we cannot be awesomely holy. Why we cannot pursue sainthood.One of the worst reasons is to plead that a particular action that we want to engage in, that we know does not bring us closer to the heart of God is not illegal.There are a lot of things that are not illegal.There are a lot of things that Jesus didn't address specifically.If you want to find a reason to do something, and you are going through a lot of effort to justify it, or at the very least you come up with some excuse like, "It's not illegal" or "Jesus never talked about this SPECIFICALLY in the Gospels" then you and I should probably pause.

Sainthood Sunday: St. Cecilia
Saint Cecilia is the patron saint of music and her martyrdom in the early history of the Church is the subject of numerous rumors and legends. The story has it that she pleged herself to perpetual virginity and prayed that she would be protected in a time when it was not considered the norm to remain a virgin.When she was married to a man named Valerian, she told him of her vow and implored that he honor that. When he was baptized, he was able to see the visions that she was seeing. His brother was also baptized and to reward them for this, they were martyred by beheading which was ordered by the mayor.Cecilia during the course of this time had been preaching and won
